Fame and Popularity

December’s X-alt was a bit different because of my bad throat!  X:Cell did a lot to make the evening work, and we spent a lot more time talking about things at tables.

We looked at celebrity magazines and each table chose a celebrity to focus on.  We went on to look at four people the Bible describes as “famous”.  These were: Joshua, David, Solomon and Uzziah, and we compared their fame to that of the celebrities we identified earlier.

We didn’t want to leave it there though, and so we spent a bit of time thinking about why people want to be popular, and how popularity can be used for good.

To finish the evening, we decided to turn our attention away from people and onto God – the ultimate celebrity.  We considered how adverts for films, music, etc. will often have one or two word quotes from reviews praising the people involved and the finished product.  We stuck pieces of A4 on the cupboards with a few words describing our thoughts on God.  These were the responses in no particular order…
